I've always loved over-the-top fashion. Whether I'm off to Starbucks for my daily coconut milk latte or I'm catching a flight - you'll always find me sporting my brightly coloured slides, a bedazzled blazer or a purse with (nearly) too many tassels. I guess you could say that similar to my taste in men, my pieces must always have that extra 'je ne sais quois'. Perhaps it's my extroverted nature that sparks my love for strong colours and chunky accessories. Or perhaps my heritage could also contribute to this admiration of all things bright and shiny. I had the pleasure of taking a trip to visit my dear abuelitos in the Spain last May and as I sat down for one of our typical afternoon cafésito with my abuela and one of her friends, I couldn't help but notice the copious amounts of oversized gold rings, the large black Chanel glasses or the big bright beautiful handbags that hung from their small frames. It could also be that the fashion industry itself has subliminally got me interested in the combination of oversized metallics paired with bright colours. 2019 is only in it's third month and yet I have already seen many designers perfecting this delicious trend. One of my favourite executions of this dynamic duo would have to be Alexander McQueen. (see drool worthy examples below) Alexander McQueen / Via Instagram All of my admiration for this extra-ness is not to say that I don't think minimalistic styles do not have their own subtle beauty. I mean, who can say they don't love a pair of classic blue jeans with a tight black turtle neck or a good ol' tailored pant suit paired with stilettos? Minimalism has quite clearly earned its place in the fashion world (and in our closets) for a reason. Now, all of that being said, the richness of hyper pigmentation and oversized silver accessories are just not comparable to a pastel blouse with a tiny silver choker. It would be simply blasphemous to even compare the two as they are in completely different leagues entirely! So there you have it, my favourite look of the year thus far must go to the OG of looks: bright, chunky and oh so delish. Cause let's face it, life's too short for incognito colours and minimalistic jewelry. Let us pop, let us be extra, let us snatch up that spot light and pose in our bright over-accessorized glory. In the meantime if you need me, you can find me browsing the shoe section at Nordstroms.. in my bright red 3D slides, of course. Ciao Bellas, Nay 💋
